Right before Thanksgiving we went for our 30 week ultrasound and
everything looked good minus the fact that his abdomen was measuring
smaller than 10%. Dr. A wanted to see us again in four weeks to see if
he had grown anymore or if we would need to do future follow-ups. When
we went at 34 weeks he measured smaller than 10% in his abdomen and
measuring small all over. So they wanted us to start coming in for
stress tests twice a week. That same visit I received one steroid
shot and did a stress test, and came back the following day for the
second steroid shot. The steroid shots were supposed to help with lung
development in case they needed to deliver early, or he came early.
The
stress tests monitored his heart rate at my contractions and how long
it took him to make several movements. The first two stress tests went
fine, But the third one, on christmas eve, I had to stay longer after
his heart rate had significantly decreased during a contraction I had.
He also had taken longer between movements than previous appointments.
On the 27th I again had to stay longer then the 20 minutes that it had
taken before because he was not moving very much. The nurse came in and
gave him what I'd like to call the baby fire alarm buzz on my tummy and
he about jumped straight out! He moved some more then and I was able to
leave. The next evening I had noticed he hadn't moved very much all day
so I laid down to try to count how long it took him to make 10
movements. He was supposed to make 10 movements within a two-hour
period. It took him almost a full two hours to move 10 times, so I
decided to get up and finally get out a few things packed for hospital
bag. I just wasn't sure if we would possibly need to go in to have him
checked.
To be continued...
